In June 2005 Balkan Loach Cobitis elongata Heckel & Kner 1858 was caught for the first time in Montenegro in the River Lim (the Danube Basin). We sampled 21 specimens and on six (6) we measured 27 morphometric and 4 meristic characters. Fifty eight specimens of Cobitis elongata  were collected from several spots on the Lim River downstream the city of Berane and its tributaries, the Bistrica and the Lješnica, in October 2005.  C. elongata prefers habitats with weaker flow rate, respecively lower velocity of water, which is characteritic for the lower course of the Lim River. The habitats in which it has been found are gravelly, sometimes with larger fractions, and rarely below the roots of woody plants.

Key words: Cobitis elongata, morphology, distribution, the Lim River, Montenegro

PRVI NALAZI I OPIS Cobitis elongata HECKL & KNER 1858 (COBITIDAE) U CRNOJ GORI
