Cadmium (Cd) is introduced in agroecosystem through phosphate fertilizers. Highly toxic and very mobile within the food chain, it represents a serious threat to  human health. As a model system in this experiment, soybean seedlings were used, grown on nutrient solution in the presence of Cd at concentrations similar to those allowed as the upper limit in agricultural soils. It has been shown that the increase in Mg content in the nutrient solution induces a significant decrease of Cd effects. Treatment with salicylic acid (SA) together with Cd application also decreases phytotoxic effects of Cd and at the same time increases Mg content in leaves without decreasing Cd accumulation. It is suggested that the meliorative effect of salicylic acid is based on the regulation of uptake and distribution of Mg. The results of the examination of possibility to alleviate phytotoxic effects of Cd may find their application in agriculture, forestry and phytoremediation.

MOGUĆNOST PREVAZILAŽENJA TOKSIČNOG DELOVANJA KADMIJUMA POMOĆU MAGNEZIJUMA I SALICILNE KISELINE

Kadmijum (Cd) dospeva u agroekosistem prvenstveno preko fosfatnih djubriva.
